В семейной жизни принято выделять 4 этапа – engagement (помолвка), marriage (брак), separation (разлад) и divorce (развод). Они происходят от следующих глаголов.
to marry (smb.)
жениться (на ком-либо), выходить за муж (за кого-либо)
I am married – Я женат/замужем
I will get married – Я скоро поженюсь / выйду замуж
to announce a marriage — объявлять о свадьбе
to annul a marriage — аннулировать брак
to break up / dissolve a marriage — разбивать, разрушать брак
to consummate a marriage — осуществить брачные отношения
to propose marriage — предлагать руку и сердце
to contract a marriage — заключать брак
to enter into a marriage — вступать в брак

to get engaged — обручиться
Bill is engaged to Betty — Билл помолвлен с Бетти
separated
разошедшийся (с супругом, но ещё не разведённый)
When did you separate from your husband? — Когда ты ушла от мужа?

разводиться (с кем-либо)
to get a divorce – получить развод
This famous actress has been divorced from 3 husbands — У знаменитой актрисы было 3 развода
A friend of mine divorced her husband — Одна моя подруга развелась со своим мужем

One day a man goes to a pet shop to buy a parrot. The assistant takes the man to the parrot section and asks the man to choose one. The man asks, ”How much is the yellow one? ”
The assistant says, ”$2000. ” The man is shocked and asks the assistant why it’s so expensive. The assistant explains, ”This parrot is a very special one. He knows typewriting and can type really fast. ”
”What about the green one? ” the man asks.
The assistant says, ”He costs $5000 because he knows typewriting and can answer incoming telephone calls and takes notes. ”
”What about the red one? ” the man asks.
The assistant says, ”That one’s $10,000. ”
